The Baltimore duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack make up the genius behind Wye Oak. Just coming off of announcing their JOIN tour, Wye Oak plans to perform with a newly expanded live band. Not only will they be performing songs from their Wye Oak catalogue; they will also be performing songs from the respective solo projects. On March 23rd, JOIN Wye Oak at the Independent with support of introspective lo-fi singer Hannah Read of Lomelda. Tickets are $23 in advance and $25 at the door. The doors open at 7:30 PM and the show begins at 8:00 PM.

Lomelda is a band that, at its core, consists of heartfelt songwriting and friendship. Their most recent release, M for empathy, takes us on a journey of what it means for Hannah Read to find peace within herself. Her album is decorated with tracks like “Talk”, a bare composition where Hannah’s vocals can stand out, and “M for Me”, a heartfelt track that confronts death. M for Empathy is dive into what Hannah defines as feeling for another

Wye Oak. just released three new songs entitled “Walk Soft”, “Fear of Heights” and “Fortune”; three tracks that are in line with their calming style. In regards to their individual solo project, Andy Starck’s Joyero and Jenn Wasner’s Flock of Dime are uniquely captivativing in their own way. I can only imagine how beautiful these two projects will sound in proximity to each other. Below you can hear one of Wye Oak’s newest tracks:

Malik Bey: I'm an East Coast native who took on the adventure of living in the Bay Area for the last few years. I'm currently in the process of developing a social media website that will allow all kinds of artist to collaborate on projects and have a safe space to exhibit their art. In my spare time, I create a playlist series called "DRINK WATER"; which is a creative take on exposing listeners to refreshing new music. This series is a collaborative effort from me and a few other music lovers with the purpose of getting more music lovers to contribute to the playlist. I also DJ around the bay area from time to time; feel free to ask me about some of my live sets. But overall, I'm just a music connoisseur who loves talking and writing about music.
