Hatsune Miku Brings the Future to Los Angeles on 4/8 at the Shrine Auditorium

Each year the Coachella music and arts festival brings thousands of festival goers and some of the world’s biggest artists to an otherwise nondescript location nestled within the high desert of California. As a part of the festivities, many of the performing artists take the time to play a show either in the surrounding area or in Los Angeles itself, providing an opportunity for fans who can’t afford a Coachella ticket to see their favorite artists.

Among the first of these shows is the legendary Hatsune Miku. While Miku may not immediately ring a bell to many of you, she’s impossible to miss when you see her, because Hatsune Miku isn’t a real person. Much like the Gorillaz and other virtual bands before them, Hatsune Miku is an entirely fictional creation. The teal haired anime idol takes the idea of a virtual artist a few steps further than anyone thought possible, and it’s up to us to decide if it’s a gimmick or a glimpse into the future of music.

At shows Miku appears as a hologram and utilizes a variety of visual elements to create a stunning stage show. She opened for Lady Gaga on her ARTPOP tour and is purported to have been involved in over 100,000 songs.

Often people will say that we really are living in the future when we look around. Sometimes this is more true than others, but one thing is for sure. At a Hatsune Miku show we really are living in the future.
