AR Rahman Brings His Musical Storm to The Shrine on 5/31

Every so often you’re going to be confronted by an artist you’ve never heard of who is somehow playing a massive venue. As you grow older this is likely to happen more and more, as popular artists tend towards youth, and not even you, dedicated music enthusiast, can remain so informed about every scene for so long.

But age or genre aren’t the only things that can preclude you from knowing a popular artist, sometimes it can be culture. This is the case with AR Rahman, a phenomenally successful Indian composer who will be playing at The Shrine on 5/31.

Rahman, sometimes known as “Isai Puyal” (the musical storm) and “Mozart of Madras,” is a highly acclaimed film and music composer who is perhaps best known in America for his work on the soundtrack of Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire. Given his prolific output there’s a strong chance that you’ve heard a song or two of his even if you don’t often engage with Indian culture.

Because of his multinational acclaim, Rahman is expected to put on an incredible show at The Shrine so I implore you to take the time to give something outside of your typical sphere a chance. It’s going to be a great time.
