Citizen is a post-hardcore band that merges pop with punk and emo with indie. They formed in 2009 with members from both Ohio and Michigan and began their earlier music with a more melodic hardcore sound that shifted into the grunge style we hear in most of their later material. The band’s first full-length album Youth, which was released in 2013, was praised for delivering their angsty post-hardcore sound in their own unique way. They played in the 2013 Van’s Warped Tour and continued to progress leading up to their 2017 album release of As You Please, which they believe to be their best work yet. The album brings out Citizen’s more mature, melodic side without switching it up too much, showing that they are a band that fans can continue listening to throughout those angsty teenage years and beyond.
The guys put out their latest single “Big Mouth” in May of last year which contains a catchy sound with heavier bass. This spring, Citizen will be going on tour beginning in March and will be making a stop at Austin’s Barracuda on Tuesday April 21st with opening performances by alternative indie artists Wicca Phase Springs Eternal and Rosie Tucker. All ages will be welcome to the show and general admission tickets are going for $21. If you’re into the idea of a night filled with a versatile mix of post-hardcore and indie pop, then this show will be your jam.
