The world could always use more good rock music. By and large it’s a genre that still puts headphones in ears, but has received a lot of critical flak as of late for being stagnant and uninterested in being anything more than a retread of previous groups. Sometimes a band pops out of the walls and shocks with a new sound, but as the criticism implies that is becoming an increasingly rare occurrence.
If you’re looking for the band that is going to propel rock music into the 21st century, I can confidently say that White Reaper isn’t that. But if you’re looking for a group that can rekindle your passion for what was always special about rock music, while not sounding like a complete retread of earlier acts, White Reaper is that band.
While they are primarily a garage punk band there is no denying the classic ferocity behind each of White Reaper’s songs. Their stellar hooks, catch grooves and raucous energy have made for some of the most entertaining albums of the past five years and their sound leaves no doubt that they can put on a killer show.
The Glass House, while a bit of a trek for most Angelenos, is one of the more spectacular venues in Southern California, big without being impersonal and small without being cramped. Their longstanding commitment to punk, rock, and fringe metal has made them one of the more exciting venues in the region and so long as they continue to book shows like this, they’ll keep it that way.
