Creative music
There have been various metal bands of all kinds who were not afraid to test the waters of creativity while producing a new record. When a band decides to add creativity into their musical style, something beautiful can emerge from the speakers and the band Lordi did just this with their new record Killection. Listeners are in for a surprise with this record because it contains elements of rock, funk, soft rock and metal music. Mr. Lordi’s vocals are filled with grunge and authority on each track. Amen’s guitar skills are slick while Hiisi’s bass guitar skills rumbles with satisfaction. Mana’s drumming is simple and realistic and Hella’s keyboard skills are wonderful because the notes blend in well with the theme of each song. The band said that they are trying to channel music that people would normally hear from the ’70s to the mid-’90s.
On Killection, “Like A Bee To The Honey” has an amazing historical context behind it; the song was written by KISS founder and band member Paul Stanley and well-known songwriter Jean Beauvior. “Like A Bee To The Honey” is a unreleased song and Lordi decided to create their own version. The band did a fantastic job because when listening, it feels like the ’80s all over again. The musical elements are dynamic and the saxophone steals the whole track because it provides the bluesy and romantic atmosphere and the keyboards by Hella create the ’80s vibe on the track.
Another track on the album, “Blow My Fuse,” is great because of the rock instrumentation by the band. Amen’s guitar playing provides the album with the rock element and his solo is bittersweet because it is filled with the sound of classic rock. Haiisi’s bass guitar in the background contributes to the rock vibe and Mana’s drumming are rock beats being played on a softer tempo. Hella’s keyboards fill the track with soulful and funky music and Lordi’s grungy vocals fill the atmosphere with his boastful vocal style. “Blow My Fuse” will surprise music listeners with the elements of rock and funk music the song bleeds.
One song that is different from the rest of the tracks on Killectoin is “Shake The Baby Silent.” It represents the music Lordi has done over the years in the midst of an album with new, creative directions. Lordi’s vocals on this track are raw and filled with grunge. Amen’s guitar notes are wild because he adds the electricity in song by playing clear metal music notes, Hiisi’s heavy bass notes deeply rumble and Mana is able to keep up with the tempo on the drums. Even though the keyboard is quiet in this song, toward the end, they can be heard blaring beautiful notes. “Shake The Baby Silent” is a great track because it provides the metal music people want to hear.
Overall, Killection is a great record and the music bleeds creativity. Lordi did a fantastic job creating this record and listeners should give the album a listen because they may very well find themselves singing and dancing to the music.
