Hopefully this new decade is the era of great collaborations. Lately we’ve been seeing collaborations, something that was often relegated to the realm of pop, electronic and hip hop pop up into more and more genres. Surprisingly some of the most exciting collaborations we’ve seen have come from metal groups who have used their strengths and unique styles to enhance the sound of other bands. Of this recent smattering of collabs perhaps no group has been more successful at them than The Body.
The Body is a strange act no matter how you slice it. They don’t seem to cleanly fit into any genre, they’re too metal to be industrial, too noisy to be metal and too industrial to be noise, but what this affords them is a chameleon-like ability to bring out the best in their chosen collaborators, and recently all of that energy has been focused on Uniform.
Uniform, an Industrial Noise group hailing from New York. Recently renewed their efforts as a band with the excellent 2018 record The Long Walk but perhaps even more importantly they embarked on two incredible collaborations with The Body Mental Wounds Not Healing, and Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back. Both albums highlighted the commonalities between the band and sharpened their respective rough edges to a razorblade of talent and ambition, making some of the most interesting projects of the year.
Both bands, given their proclivity for madness in the studio, are equally intense live. Their shows revolve around darkness, intensity and panic, making them a perfect fit for the ever so slightly cramped but extremely intimate Zebulon. If you ever need to take a breather there’s always a door to step outside, who knows, with a lineup like this you might just need it.
