San Diego based indie rock band Wavves have announced a set of 2020 tour dates to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2010 album King of the Beach. This tour will kick off in North America on APril 10th, in Phoenix, Arizona and will wrap up on May 28th in Los Angeles.
These new tour dates also coincide with a reissue of the album, which will be released as a purple kush vinyl with alternate art that was originally slated to be the cover, before it was scrapped. This reissue will be released via Fat Possum Records on the tour’s inaugural date, April 10th, and also includes a bonus 7″ with “Mutant” and “Stained Glass (Won’t You Let Me Into Yr Heart).”
King of the Beach was noted for its unique blend of indie rock, and noise pop which also provided a new and original take on a typical pop punk format. The album was a strong critical success for the band, and is considered by some to be their best effort.
During an interview with Pitchfork, the band’s primary songwriter Nathan Williams explained his decision to push his band’s sound in a different direction for the album:
“The last thing I wanted to do was record the same record again. A lot of bands kind of get comfortable with something like that; once they know they’ve got something that some people like, they’ll just go and try and recreate that. I just feel like that would’ve been so fucking boring to do. I wanted to just do something completely different. That was the beginning of the whole thing. But once I got into it, it wasn’t even about recording a different record, necessarily. I was just trying to make the best record that I could, and I think that’s what we did.”
