Ahead of her third official Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival appearance in 2020, the Grammy-nominated TOKiMONSTA announced Tuesday that her fourth full-length album, Oasis Nocturno, will be released on March 20th. TOKiMONSTA also shared her latest single, “Fried For The Night,” featuring two-time Grammy-nominated EarthGang.
The title speaks for itself EarthGang’s Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot swapping verses about every substance at a particular party. Where Venus talks about the vibe of the party:
Superpowers, April showers, for me ’til I take ’em down
Move it slower, ride it fast, goin’ through some real shit now
Cotton candy in my cup, sour patches, purple ‘rup,
Dot gets a little more insightful:
I see signs in the sky all the time, I just follow my cue
Better than what I been through
Never not livin’ my truth
Speaking on the collaboration with EarthGang, TOKiMONSTA said the psychedelic nature of the song is dedicated to those “moments where our reality opens up a new point of view.”
“Everyone has a moment where they feel fried and burnt, but what about those moments you feel fried and turnt?” she said. “EarthGang brought their special magic to the studio and we made something other-wordly.”
The video, directed by Romain Laurent, captures just that as it features TOKiMONSTA and EarthGang on one hell of a psychedelic trip, navigating their way through a house party in the hills.
The road to her latest album has been a process, to say the least. In 2015 the LA-based DJ underwent two intensive surgeries at Stanford to treat Moyamoya, a rare brain condition which left her unable to speak, write, comprehend music, or move. Less than two years later she released her third studio album Lune Rouge to high praise and cover stories in Billboard, LA Weekly and DJ MAG.
TOKiMONSTA will kick off here 16-date run across North America, aptly titled The Oasis Nocturno Experience, at Coachella on April 10th.
