Soccer Mommy Announces New Album color theory for February 2020 Release and Shares New Video for “circle the drain”

Singer-songwriter Sophie Allison, best known under stage name as Soccer Mommy has announced her sophomore album, color theory, which will be released on February 28th via Loma Vista. This latest album project is supported by the new single, and accompanying music video titled “circle the drain,” which debuted on January 13th.

“circle the drain,” is a soothing indie pop song filled with pop-inspired acoustic guitar chords and other inflections of 1990s inspired alternative rock/pop production. The music video, which is directed by Atiba Jefferson, shows Allison walking across the desert near Palm Springs, California, which is intercut with scenes of skaters riding through an abandoned water park. Jefferson has worked with American Football, Turnstile, TV On The Radio and Dinosaur Jr., while the pro-skateboarders who make an appearance in the video are Sean Malto, Jake Anderson, Curren Caples, and Nicole Hause.

“I wanted the experience of listening to color theory to feel like finding a dusty old cassette tape that has become messed up over time, because that’s what this album is: an expression of all the things that have slowly degraded me personally,” Allison explained in a press release. “The production warps, the guitar solos occasionally glitch, the melodies can be poppy and deceptively cheerful. To me, it sounds like the music of my childhood distressed and, in some instances, decaying.”

Allison released a music video for the track “yellow is the color of her eyes” last November. She released new song from the original motion picture soundtrack for The Turning titled “Feed,” last December.
