German heavy metal band Rammstein may be hitting the roads in North America this year, after teasing an image showing a few U.S. states, and a couple of regions in Canada and Mexico highlighted with the colors of the German flag. The highlighted areas are California, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts, as well as Quebec in Canada and Mexico City. This will be their first live shows in North America since 2017.
The band released their self-titled album in May of last year. This release was accompanied by music videos for the songs “Radio,” and the politically charged track “Deutschland” which examined various parts of Germany’s complicated history. This latest album was intended by the group’s members to contain an entire experience, and is seen as a return to form for the group.
“I thought, ‘Every time people talk Rammstein, it’s about fire. It’s all about the show.’ Nobody talks about the music anymore for Rammstein, and it kind of bothered me,” the band’s guitarist Richard Kruspe explained. “I was thinking, ‘I want to do another record. It has to be musical in a way that can really stand out from other records.’ That was my goal, or our goal.”
This latest record was known for pushing their old nostalgic sound forward, with elements of experimentation. “Overall, Rammstein is one of the best albums the band has put forth. It comprises the old sound that fans associate with them while also experimenting with new elements,” mxdwn reviewer Erin Winans explained. “No amount of time stops Rammstein from moving forward in the music world.”
The band’s singer announced a new musical project called Lindemann last year as well. The group released an NSFW music video for the song “Ach So Gern,” in December.
