Moby is back with a new album in 2020 titled All Visible Objects, which will be released on March 6, 2020. The record promises to be a dance-heavy release, which, along with his last album Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt in 2018 marks bit of a return to the his electronic music roots.
The first single to be released from the album is “Power Is Taken,” which features a pulsating beat and squiggly synths that build up into a blaring crescendo. With just a bit of a sinister element that recalls industrial music, it sounds like dance music for the apocalypse. Joining Moby on the track is longtime Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro, who recites a defiant line in the middle of the track, “We who hate oppression / Must fight against the oppressors / Power is not shared / Power is taken.”
All of the proceeds from the album will be donated to a series of charities. Included in these charities are Brighter Green, a public policy action tank that specializes in environment, animals and sustainability, Mercy for Animals, the Rainforest Action Network, Extinction Rebellion, the ACLU, Animal Equality, The Physicians Committee, International Anti-Poaching Foundation, The Good Food Institute and The Indivisible Project.
The album features 11 songs with one cover of a Roxy Music song, “My Only Love.” The album also features appearances by Moby’s frequent vocalist Mindy Jones and several spots by Apollo Jane. Jamaican dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson makes a guest appearance on the song “Refuge.” Just a quick glance at the song titles gives a good impression of the album’s theme: “Refuge,” “Power Is Taken,” “Rise Up In Love,” “Too Much Change.”
