In anticipation of their upcoming collaborative EP Texas Sun, Houston trio Khruangbin and Fort Worth native Leon Bridges have released their second song from the project, “C-Side.” The song perfectly blends the different sounds of Khruangbin and Bridges, as his soaring vocal melodies are supported with grace by the band’s spacious percussion.
The song is the second to be released leading up to the release of Texas Sun. The title track was released in late 2019, though there are still 2 songs yet to be unheard from the EP. Bridges and the soul/funk trio have sounded stellar on the first 2 songs from the EP, and the anticipation is sure to increase leading up to the release of the full EP on February 7th.
Bridges has been busy touring since the release of his 2018 studio album, Good Thing. The album was a massive hit, as Bridges’ ability to blend an old school, soulful voice with modern sounds and production won over both fans and critics.
Khruangbin, the Houston-based trio consisting of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Ray “DJ” Johnson Jr. on drums, has ascended among the musical ranks since the release of their 2015 debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You; their ability to play a multitude of different styles and genres of music is regarded highly in the critical realm. Most recently the trio played in the 2019 Desert Daze Festival, and made an on stage appearance with Staten Island hip hop icon, Wu Tang Clan.
