New York-based country musicians The Haden Triplets debuted a song that was written by their grandfather Carl E. Hayden, the father to legendary bassist Charlie Hayden, called “Memories of Will Rogers.” Their latest single will grace the The Haden Triplets forthcoming album The Family Songbook slated for a January 24 release, via Trimeter Records. According to a press release, “…their grandfather’s songs made their way to the sisters via uncle Carl Haden Jr., who had recovered his father’s sheet music and relics like the songbook Favorites of the Haden Family, a ‘zine-like’ collections of family photos and anecdotes.”
“Memories of Will Rogers” is a track that recalls a time of traditional country vocal arrangements and further cements The Haden Triplets’ alternative/new traditional country/folk presence. Their latest musical offering is deeply rooted in a bluegrass/honky-tonk fashion that comes complete with gently plucked swaying guitar licks. The sweet melodic vocals at the commanded helm of The Haden Triplets really ties the track well and attributes a huge service to their grandfather’s lyrics. Their chemistry is natural as it is in sync with the track’s melody often a serene listen to their audience.
The about section of the The Haden Triplets official website rounds out Rachel and Petra’s mutual respect for one another’s vocal capabilities and the ease of getting the best out of each other:
“…Rachel describes it, “an unconditional love kind of thing, where I know I always have them.
‘I feel the most confident when I sing with my sisters,’ she continues. ‘When I sing alone, I feel like there’s something missing.’
Petra is even more direct: ‘There’s nothing like family,” she says, “and that feeling you get when you sing with family.’”
The Haden Triplets are comprised of sisters (Petra, Rachel and Tanya) that have appeared individually in bands and together as a collective. The Haden Triplets have an impressive array of contributing song credits to their name. As previously noted in the aforementioned press release, “The Haden Triplets carry between them a list of credits that includes some of the most interesting rock, jazz and experimental music to come along in the past 30 years: that dog., Weezer, Beck, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, Bill Frisell, Sunn O))), Mike Watt, The Fates from Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown,Paul Motian and the Decemberists, to name just a handful.”
