Poppy Debuts Music Video for Ferocious Single “Anything Like Me”

Poppy the singer from New Orleans just released a new video for the song, “Anything Like Me” which is extremely fresh and electric. The video starts with Poppy staring closely into the camera with a sad look on her face as she mouths the lyrics, “I feel her heart beating in me. Get her out of me.” The beat picks up as the tempo changes and vocals change the range entirely and her anger comes through. Whether it’s anger or more an indignant nature, she repeats the phrase, “This isn’t a fight who won, go on and give up the gun. If this is a test, with all due respect. You’re not going to fool anyone. I’m everything she never was. Now everyone’s out for my blood.”

The track is from her new album, I Disagree. Poppy, who was born and raised in Boston and later moved to Los Angeles in 2013, co-directed this latest video with Jesse Draxler. In recent mxdwn article, Poppy is described as an artist who has leveraged her strange alter ego into a musical movement. Recently her trajectory has seen itself steered into the realm of pop metal and dark electronic with her ep X and the closing moments of Am I A Girl? Her recent singles have indicated a more severe turn into that direction, and tracks like “I Disagree” show a shocking amount of promise.

Poppy rose to prominence after working with director and musician Titanic Sinclair. Poppy and Sinclair gained attention from their mysterious short art and music videos. In 2015, she signed a recording contract with Island Records. In late 2016, Poppy became the face of Sanrio’s “Hello Sanrio” collection. In the summer of 2017, she signed to Mad Decent, and in October released her first studio album, Poppy.Computer. To promote the album she embarked on her first tour, which consisted of 34 North American cities separated by shows in London and Tokyo. In 2018, she released her web television series, I’m Poppy, and her second studio album,  Am I a Girl?

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
