The legendary production duo The Neptunes, which consists of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have revealed that they will be working together full-time this year. Hugo revealed this development during an interview with Clash, where he revealed a list of high-profile collaborators.
The Neptunes are renowned for their unique hip hop production, which blended heavy bass, and stripped down electronic funk sounds with Middle Eastern and East Asian inspired rhythms and samples. The group received acclaim for their work with artists such as Clipse (which rapper Pusha T was a member of), Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Nas and Kelis.
This time around the duo have revealed that they have been working with Jay-Z once again, along with a number of other artists such as Miley Cyrus, Blink-182, Lil Uzi Vert, Brandy and G-Eazy. Other potential collaborators who Hugo named included Lil Nas X and Rex Orange County.
“I’m focusing on The Neptunes stuff, getting back on The Neptunes grind,” Hugo said in the interview. “We’re doing a couple of things. There’s a videogame soundtrack that’s in the works right now that I can’t speak about, I’m not supposed to, but uh, it’s in the works right now. We just did some work with Miley Cyrus, JAY-Z, blink-182, Lil Uzi Vert, Brandy, Ray J, Snoh Aalegra, G-Eazy.”
While Williams is best known for his work as a solo-artist, he also has an extensive catalog as a producer. He recently contributed to seven new tracks which are featured on Beck’s most recent studio album release Hyperspace.
