A new batch of unreleased David Bowie material will be collected and released on an upcoming EP titled David Bowie Is It Any Wonder?, along with a new EP of unreleased and rare material titled ChangesNowBowie. These compilations will be released via Parlophone, and a rare version of Bowie’s classic “The Man Who Sold The World,” titled “The Man Who Sold The World (ChangesNowBowie Version)” has been released in honor of the singer’s birthday today, January 8.
“The Man Who Sold The World (ChangesNowBowie Version)” is a more stripped down version of the song, without electric guitars or vocal overlays, and utilizes Bowies voice and the use of a sitar for the guitar lines. This instrumentation provides a more raw South Asian inspired feel, which the track Bowie originally released also channels with its chord progressions.
The upcoming LP ChangesNowBowie was originally recorded for radio and broadcast by the BBC on David’s 50th birthday in 1997. These recordings are mostly acoustic and stripped back versions of his classics, and was produced by Bowie himself, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati. Gabrels and Plati performed the guitars and keyboards/ programming respectively, while Gail Ann Dorsey performed on bass for these sessions. These sessions will be released on record store day 2020 on April 18th.
A box-set documenting the performer’s early years in the recording industry titled Conversation Piece was released last November. This five-CD set showcases Bowie’s early work throughout 1968 and 1969, via his home demos, BBC radio sessions, studio recordings with guitarist John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson and the experimental music and mime group, Feathers.
