Multi-instrumentalist and rock performer Jonny Polonsky has announced a new album titled Kingdom of Sleep, which is set to be released on March 6th via Ghostworks Recordings. This new album is accompanied by a new track titled “The Weeping Souls,” which was released on SoundCloud on January 7th.
“The Weeping Souls” is a dream like indie rock track with soothing guitars, spacey vocal overlays, eerie synth lines and steady rhythms that give it a space-rock feel. Polonsky’s emotional vocal delivery displays an inner emotional conflict, which is complimented by his lovelorn lyrics.
“This song is basically about when you’ve cut someone out of your life, and you’re still trying to process all the conflicting, paradoxical feelings you have for them,” Polonsky stated in a press release. “It’s also kind of a love letter that was intentionally never sent to its recipient. Sorta like how Abraham Lincoln would write letters venting his feelings, and stick them in his desk drawer. I don’t have a desk drawer so I’m using the Internet.”
The upcoming album is self-produced by Polonsky, which was mixed and mastered by Mike Tholen, who has worked with Chris Connelly and the Revolting Cocks. Polonsky released a compilation album in 2018 titled Unreleashed: Demos and Rarities 1996-2018.
“Unreleashed: Demos and Rarities does a great job, from start to finish, of showcasing the diversity in sounds Jonny Polonsky has brought to the table over the many years he has been active in it,” mxdwn reviewer Jamie Hampton explained. “From start to finish, the listener is sure to be at least intrigued by the album, whether it be by the more punk-forward tracks or the more indie-based ones, there is something for everyone.
