Music and indie-film site Tiny Mix Tapes have announced an indefinite hiatus. In statement provided by Pitchfork, they tweet “After nearly two decades of publishing, we have decided this is the ideal time to take a much-needed hiatus.TMT has always essentially been a passion project, made possible only through your readership. Big thank you for everything.”
Tiny Mix Tapes was launched in 2001 and co-founded by Marvin Lin, also known as Mr. P. The site was known for covering new, independent acts as well as its themed playlists in the “Automatic Mix Tape Generator” series and its comics. Its staff writers also used pseudonyms when writing, including “Wolfman,” “Mango Starr,” “Chizzly St. Claw,” and “Filmore Mescalito” to name a few. In 2009, they released a charity compilation featuring contributions from Jim O’Rourke, Mount Eerie, Dan Deacon, and others. Also in 2009 saw the debut of their monthly podcast “Chocolate Grinder,” which saw a writer collect ten brand new tracks they want to shed light on and mix it as a continuous stream or download.
