Wednesday Covers Deftones, Flyleaf, Jane’s Addiction & More During Hometown Halloween Show

According to Stereogum, for years, the North Carolina indie rock band Wednesday‘s greatest nemesis in the acronymic realm of SEO and DSPs has been Wednesday, the Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. So it is only fitting that for their hometown Halloween show, they dressed up as the Addams Family.

A special Halloween show billed as Wednesday Presents: Mr. Rat’s Haunted Corn Maze took place Saturday night at the Orange Peel in Wednesday’s hometown of Asheville. For the occasion, Karly Hartzman dressed as Pugsley, Alan Miller was Uncle Fester, Xandy Chelmis went as Gomez, Jake “Spyder” Pugh was Morticia, and Ethan Baechtold dressed up as Cousin Itt.

A late stretch of four straight covers began with Flyleaf’s “I’m So Sick,” followed by the Cranberries’ “Linger” with Tanner York. (Wednesday previously covered “Linger” on Halloween way back in 2019.) York stuck around for Big Star’s “September Gurls,” which also featured the show’s opening act, Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan. Then came a cover so intrinsic to Wednesday’s ethos that it feels like an original at this point, Gary Stewart’s “She’s Actin’ Single (I’m Drinking Doubles).”
