Definitive 1980’s pop fixtures English synth-pop duo, Pet Shop Boys, are eagerly presenting fans new material recently releasing the third track “Monkey Business” from their forthcoming fourteenth studio album Hotspot. The duo’s latest musical offering has an album release date slated for January 24, via x2/Kobalt. According to a press release, the iconic duo collectively spoke of their funky dance-infused single “Monkey Business” saying “‘We’ve actually written, almost for the first time in our career, a groove song,’ Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe say of the song.”
Their latest single “Monkey Business” is a slight departure from their more straight forward electronic synth pop sensibilities, as the duo incorporate a more disco/dance-tinged groove. The spacey, techno tongue-in-cheek approach is aptly attributed to the title “Monkey Business” and slickly glides along the dance floor with precision and ease. Tennant and Lowe collectively spoke of the genesis and recording process in regards to their forthcoming album Hotspot saying, “‘We’ve written much of our music over the last ten years in Berlin and it was an exciting experience to work on this album in the legendary Hansa studios there and add a new dimension to our sound,’ Tennant and Lowe explain of the album.” Hotspot marks the duo’s extensively thorough musical catalogue with their last musical offering, Pet Shop Boys’ thirteenth studio album, being 2016’s Super.
Pet Shop Boys, comprised of Neil Tennant (lead vocalist/synthesizers/guitar) and Chris Lowe (synthesizers/keyboards/programing/backing vocals), are best known for their breakout smash hit single “West End Girls” off the duo’s debut album 1986’s Please. As previously reported in the aforementioned press release, “Hotspot was primarily written and recorded in Berlin and Los Angeles. The album was produced and mixed by Stuart Price (marking the third PSB album Price has produced, following Super (2016) and Electric (2013).”
The duo’s forthcoming album will be available in various formats and is currently available for pre-order. The aforementioned press release furthers that “Hotspot will also be available to purchase on cassette and 2-disc deluxe CD, which includes an instrumental version of the full record on the second disc; pre-order HERE.”
