Bassist Magnus “Devo” Andersson Announces his Departure from Band Marduk

Marduk bassist Magnus “Devo” Andersson announced his departure from the band. According to the PRP, Andersson issued a statement about his departure, stating “After a total of 17 years in Marduk, 70 countries and almost 900 gigs, I decided to leave the band. I intend to concentrate more on the studio. I, therefore, with the other members of Madruk good luck in the future.” Since serving as the bassist of the band beginning in 2004, the band went on to make six albums, Plague AngelRom 5:12WormwoodSerpent SermonFrontschwein and Viktoria.

Marduk was formed in 1990 in Norrköping, Sweden and consists of current members Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson, Simon Schilling and Mortuus. The band released their debut album Dark Endless in 1992  and since the release of their latest LP, the band has had a challenging time trying to perform. Last year, the band’s scheduled show in Poland was canceled due to an insane amount of pressure from the Polish Christian political party PiS. The group called to ban the show as it promoted satanic beliefs, but the club chose to ignore the party’s request. It has been alleged that someone broke into the club and stole a water meter and a pipe that pretty much prevented the venue from having any running water the night of the show.
