The Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden has announced its 2020 lineup featuring the all-girl feminist punk group Bikini Kill, indie rock band Bon Iver and experimental R&B artist FKA Twigs. These performers will join others such as R&B singer Khalid, indie singer-songwriter Boy Pablo and renowned house DJ The Black Madonna at Slottskogen Park from August 13th to 15th.
The festival has hosted a variety of notable performers in the past including Sigur Ros, Sonic Youth, Four Tet, The Flaming Lips, N*E*R*D, The Avett Brothers, Haim and Alabama Shakes. There are four stages at the event, the Flamingo, the largest of the three outdoor stages, Azelea, the second largest stage, Linné, the marquee stage, Dungen, the Red Bull Music stage and the Höjden which is a stage where talks, film and intimate shows are held.
Bikini Kill are set to tour next spring across the United States. The band, along with fellow Way Out West performer FKA Twigs will make an appearance at next year’s Oya Festival.
Bon Iver released their most recent studio album titled i,i this year as well. Drew Pitt, a reviewer for mxdwn, described the project as “a journey to be undertaken, not something to dig for meaning within, tune in, drop out, let the trip carry you somewhere, we promise it’s a good one.:
FKA Twigs debuted her first album in 5 years titled Magdalene earlier this year. “The album pushes the boundaries of music up, down, side to side and in a loop. Twigs make it a point that her darkest days are behind her and there is nothing but growth on the horizon,” mxdwn reviewer Ally Tatosian explained.
