Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation Releases Dreamy New Video for “Where the Moon Hides”

Rob Garza, who is half of the influential electronica/trip hop outfit Thievery Corporation, has premiered a new music video for the track titled “Where the Moon Hides,” featuring the singer EMELINE. This track is included on Garza’s EP of the same name, which was released via Magnetic Moon Records on November 22nd.

“Where the Moon Hides,” is a breezy synth pop track, with a strong trip hop inspired drum line, which goes well with the light synth’s throughout the instrumental and EMELINE’s expressive voice. The opening of the music video shows Garza and EMELINE putting a helmet on their head, which is connected to a machine that teleports their minds into an indoor garden filled with numerous screens and other signs of technology.

“This EP and project started with the intent of writing for other artists. As the project started to evolve, it grew into a collaborative experience working with younger singers, writers and producers. Letting the music lead the way, it opened into different forms, genres and sounds with a more modern electronic edge,” Garza stated in a press release.

Garza released his debut project titled Dissolve back in 2018, which saw the producer go into a more deep house sound as opposed to the trip hop/dub style he is known for. “It sounds like he is just having fun DJ-ing and wants to improve his brand by being able to play his own stuff at his shows and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it isn’t deep, interesting nor does it tell us anything about Garza as an artist and person,” mxdwn reviewer Joseph Shigematsu explained.
