Silversun Pickups, Eliza & The Delusionals Ventura Theater 2/4
Oh shoot! It’s Christmas Day isn’t it? I think I uhhh… I’m pretty sure I got you something *sounds of rummaging through drawers, a cat hisses* uhhh… here, you know what, I got you something even better than a physical gift, I’ve brought you information, because knowledge is power and I’m broke. Okay, good save, I think that should work.
Given that this is a column about Los Angeles, I’m inclined to believe that every single one of you likes or is at least familiar with the Silversun Pickups. If not, please log off and listen to their music then come back, well, actually finish reading this THEN go log off and listen to their music. But back to the point, the Silversun Pickups, formed in beautiful Los Angeles California nearly twenty years ago, have spent the past two decades becoming one of the most beloved alternative acts in the modern era, and this February they return (close) to home for a show at the Ventura Theater.
Despite the band having huge hits like “Lazy Eye” they’ve managed to remain fairly active compared to many of their contemporaries. In fact, just six months ago they released Willow Weeds, a well received record that many have compared to the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine.
Look, let me level with you here, I know that Ventura is a long drive for most of you. It isn’t particularly in the way and if you search my name at Mxdwn you’ll find some… less than flattering reviews of shows in Ventura. BUT, those shows weren’t by Silversun Pickups, one of the most important groups to come out of this city in the past two decades. Maybe right now is the perfect chance to get your favorite alternative music fan that gift that you totally forgot, maybe you can get it for yourself. Regardless, someone needs to get these tickets, I promise it’s worth the drive.
