Rapper Tyler, The Creator has released two new songs titled “Best Interest” and “Group B,” with the prior track being called “a rough draft that did not make IGOR” according to a visual in its accompanying video. Tyler further explained that the track is “a song that I never got to fully finish from IGOR sessions,” later adding that he: “Didnt want it to sit on a hard drive. Filmed with no music, with hopes that it would sync up, a success!”
“Best Interest,” shows Tyler riding in a boat across a swamp in a video that has a DIY aesthetic, with the performer lip syncing to the songs various rapped and sung vocals throughout its entirety. The song’s instrumentals and sung/rapping delivery is similar to the experimental pop/R&B style of IGOR, which debuted earlier this year.
“Group B,” takes a more soulful style, with chopped up soul samples which are distorted making up a bulk of the track’s instrumental. As opposed to the previously sung/rap style of “Best Interest,” this song is a straightforward rap track, with Tyler delivering each bar with ease as they cut through the track perfectly. Toward the end of the song Tyler states “One take, it’s like 7 a.m.”
IGOR made our list for the top 50 albums of 2019, while its lead single “EARFQUAKE,” featuring rapper Playboi Cartio made our list of the top 50 songs of the year. The performer will make an appearance at next year’s Down The Rabbit Hole, which will hosts the likes of FKA Twigs and Wilco.
