Singer-songwriter Kurt Vile has announced his first set of solo shows in a decade this year, which will kick off in Chicago, Illinois at Thalia Hall and finish up in Austin, Texas at the Paramount Theatre. The performer will be joined by the likes of Cate Le Bon, Stephen Black and Stella Mozgawa for the tour as well.
While Vile is now best known for his work as a prolific solo artist, the musician was the former lead guitarist for the indie rock band The War on Drugs from 2003-2008. Since then, he has released seven solo albums and one collaborative album project with Courtney Barnett.
Earlier this year Vile released a new mini-documentary titled (bottle back) featuring “Baby’s Arms” with The Sadies earlier this year via Matador Records. “Honestly nothing feels better than a great live show. But I like to capture that sort of thing in the studio – like “One Trick Pony” I did that song actually in about one day,” Vile explained regarding the mini documentary.
The performer’s latest album Bottle It In was known for highlighting the performer’s unique blend of folk, country and blues into his indie-rock oriented style. As mxdwn reviewer John Coakley explained: “Bottle It In is quirky, poetic, idiosyncratic, honest and emotional. It’s not perfect, as Vile seems to occasionally lose himself in his own thoughts, but it is a compelling offering nonetheless. Vile’s cryptic lyricism and eclectic mix of indie rock, country, folk and blues make Bottle It In worth a listen.”
