Running a rock band is a process of softening edges and corners among several creative minds. Heavy-metal band System of a Down’s John Dolmayan is calling his hope to “check the massive egos at the door.” The drummer noticed the activities of three other long-running rock and metal bands, Tool, Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers, citing them as inspiration.

Tool returned with a highly anticipated album, Fear Inoculum, after a 13-year wait; a new album that was nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards. Rage Against the Machine commenced their first shows in over eight years in the following year. Red Hot Chili Peppers just announced new hand-over that former guitarist John Frusciante will rejoin the band after a 10-year departure.

The drummer shared an Instagram post, containing the logos of Tool, Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with an upside-down System of a Down logo. He also added a short paragraph to address himself:

“Three of these bands can get out of their own way and work together for a common goal, maybe the fourth can, as well. Perhaps it’s time to put all the bullshit aside, check the massive egos at the door, and do together what none of us can do alone. Maybe, just maybe a Christmas miracle will happen. Maybe it can be a System of a Down.”

System of a Down went on hiatus in 2006 and reunited in 2010. The band has been touring different cities, but they have revealed a piece of the sad news that they will not put out a new album in the near future (or ever). In our interview with lead guitarist Daron Malakian, he explained the reasons for quitting making new System of a Down album. Serj Tankian admitted to being the major reason behind the inactive period. Meanwhile, Dolmayan is focusing his side project album, featuring Serj Tankian. The band has failed to commence work on a new album for multiple reasons.
