Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit just released a cover of Roxette’s “It Must Have Been Love” as tribute to the late Marie Fredriksson, who just recently passed away on December 9th, 2019. The cover pays homage to the 80’s-90’s pop star, and serves as both a testament to the path Fredriksson blazed, as well as a display of First Aid Kit’s ability to add their touch to an iconic classic.
Fredriksson recently passed after a 17 year battle with cancer. She was the lead singer of Swedish pop/rock band Roxette; the band achieved national and international success in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and played live with Fredriksson into the 2010’s. First Aid Kit, comprised of sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, have been playing music together since they were born in the 1990’s. They debuted their first album under First Aid Kit in 2010, and since then have gone on to tour and play music for audiences worldwide. Sadly, this is their second tribute song released this year; earlier this year the band honored the late David Berman, who had committed suicide just before.
