The Orb Announce New Album Abolition of the Royal Familia for March 2020 Release

Electronic music group The Orb have announced new album entitled Abolition of the Royal Familia which is set to be released on March 27 via Cooking Vinyl. This new record is set to feature guests such as Roger Eno, Youth, Steve Hillage, Gong’s Miquette Giraudy and features the new single “Pervitin (Empire Culling & The Hemlock Stone Version).”

This latest track features a plethora of lush ambient sounds, with a strong string introduction, which is later complemented by a strong brass ensemble and experimental vocal overlays toward the end of the track which fades out with a washing sound. During the middle the voice of a woman speaking in German is played.

The Orb began in 1988 and was originally formed by Alex Paterson, and The KLF member Jimmy Cauty. The group originally performed out of local dub and ambient music scenes as DJs before moving toward music production, and becoming known for their unique use of ambient and experimental electronic music.

The group released their most recent album No Sounds are Out of Bounds back in June 2018. This latest album was backed by the singles “Rush Hill Road” featuring Hollie Cook and “Wolfbane.”

“The Orb delivers a wonderfully diverse yet cohesive set of detailed and atmospheric dance music epics. There are a lot of sounds and genres represented here from IDM to jazz to reggae,” mxdwn reviewer Joseph Shigematsu explained. “The vocals are somewhat unnecessary besides on the closer, but overall this is cutting edge and very fun to listen to.”
