El-P Announces Reissue Campaign

New York-based rapper El-P of Run The Jewels has announced a reissue campaign of his early 2000s era solo albums, which include 2002’s Fantastic Damage and 2007’s I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead. Both of the albums  were released on CD’s that have been out of print for years however, I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead was released on streaming platforms today.

El-P will be releasing these records on streaming services, and through reissues via the Fat Possum record label. Both of the albums were originally released via Definitive Jux, a label founded by El-P, which featured some of the most prominent voices in independent hip hop during the late 1990s and early 2000s such as Murs, Cage and Aesop Rock. The label went inactive in 2010, making the original album prints rarities.

I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead hosts many high-profile features, with Definitive Jux labelmates Aesop Rock and Cage appearing on the record, along with the likes of Trent Reznor, Cat Power, and At The Drive-In/Mars Volta co-leaders Omar Rodríguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala.

“This record means a lot to me. really, it’s a collection of short stories written from multiple perspectives… different characters living in the same confused, askew city of ‘Poisenville,'” the rapper explained in statement.

The rapper stated that he and Killer Mike are working on Run The Jewels 4, however the duo do not yet have release date for the upcoming project. This upcoming project is also set to feature acclaimed music producer Rick Rubin.
