On Dec. 5, American singer and songwriter, Billie Eilish showcased her directorial debut with the release of her music video for her song “Xanny.” The song was originally released earlier this year in Mar. as a track on her album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
Within seconds of playing the video, the edgy vibe is evident, and the disquieting look on Eilish’s face sets the tone of the music video, as she is sitting on a milky colored bench. The intensity rises as she is burned by a cigarette on her right cheek.
“I’m in their secondhand smoke,” she painfully sings. “Still just drinking canned coke, I don’t need a xanny to feel better.”
She continues to sing of how she is hurting on the inside, and as the song progresses, she is constantly burned all around her face with lit cigarettes, leaving visible marks. The confusion in her eyes scream loudly as she sits there, accepting the burns. As the song comes to an end, Eilish gets up off of the bench, and walks off screen.
Earlier last month, Eilish released her new single, “everything I wanted’, which was co-written by her older brother, Finneas O’Connel. Eilish also became the youngest artist to be nominated across all four major Grammy award categories, days after the release of her new single.
Eilish is set to play at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, on Mar. 13, 2020.
