Tibet House Benefit Announces 2020 Lineup Featuring Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Margo Price and More

The annual Tibet House New York City benefit concert has announced its 33rd edition, which will take place at The Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall on February 26, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. This event is set to host punk pioneers Iggy Pop and Patti Smith, soul singer Bettye LaVette, country singer-songwriter Margo Price, The National frontman Matt Berninger, singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson, musician and activist Jesse Paris Smith and Tibetan artist and cultural ambassador Tenzin Choegyal.

Proceeds from this event support the work of Tibet House US, a non-profit educational institution and cultural embassy founded in 1987 by the Dalai Lama. This institution works to protect and educate the public about Tibetan culture, which has been put under enormous strain by the Chinese government for several decades.

Previous artists that have performed at the benefit concert include the Alabama Shakes, Patti Smith, Carly Simon, David Bowie, Stephen Colbert, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Sharon Jones, FKA twigs, The Roots, Jim James, The Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Blood Orange, Sigur Ros, R.E.M, Emmylou Harris, Jon Batiste, Nathaniel Rateliff and Jason Isbell.

Iggy Pop released a new music video directed by  prominent indie singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco entitled “Sonali,” earlier this year. The performer’s most recent album project Free also debuted earlier this year.

Patti Smith released two projects with The Soundwalk Collective earlier this year, Mummer Love and The Peyote Dance. Mummer Love was inspired by the work of Arthur Rimbaud, during the period when he was in Ethiopia, a large cultural center for Sufism.
