Jim Jarmusch’s SQÜRL Announces New Album Some Music for Robby Müller for January 2020 Release

The New York city based musical duo SQÜRL, consisting of director and composer Jim Jarmusch and composer and producer Carter Logan have announced a new album Some Music for Robby Müller. This latest project will be released on January 31st 2020, and is preceded by a new single entitled “Robby’s Theme.”

“Robby’s Theme,” is composed entirely by an electric guitar, featuring some light distortion and overlays, which give it an ambient and cinematic feel. Robby Müller, who is the subject of this track and the upcoming album project was a notable cinematographer, who’s work was included on the films Paris Texas and 24 Hour Party People.

“These recordings were made by SQÜRL to provide the score to the documentary film Living The Light by Claire Pijman,” Jarmusch explained in a press release. “The subject of Claire’s film is Robby Müller, the unparalleled Dutch cinematographer and poet of light whose work includes: Paris Texas, Dead Man, Breaking The Waves, Barfly, 24 Hour Party People and at least 70 other remarkable films. He also produced many still photographs, like these luminous Polaroids on the jacket of this vinyl recording. ”

The duo released the original score for The Dead Don’t Die, a horror comedy film directed by Jarmusch which was released earlier this year. This film featured an ensemble cast including Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, RZA, Tilda Swinton, Tom Waits and Danny Glover. “There’s a lot of undertones that ride on danger, and Sqürl’s score proves that they really enjoy experimenting with sound,” mxdwn reviewer Ines Lalonde explained in a press release.
