New album has a signature sound
Swedish metal band Misery Loves Co. has been around the music scene for a long time. The timeline of the band’s musical history starts back in the ’90s. Misery Loves Co. was formed in 1993 and in 1995 their first album Misery Loves Co. made its debut in the music world. Then in 1997, their second album Not Like Them was released and then in 2000, the band released their album Your Vision Was Never Mine To Share. A little later on in the same year Misery Loves Co. announced to their fans they had decided to split up but in 2017, the band releases a teaser video for the song titled “Would You?” and today Misery Loves Co. is back with their new album titled Zero. The album is a great record because of how the band provides a signature sound on each track. Patrik Wirén’s vocals are great on this record because his vocal style sets the theme on each track as strong emotions can be felt while Wiren sings the lyrics. Meanwhile, Michael Hahne’s and Örjan Örnkloo’s guitar skill are wonderful on Zero because the electrifying sounds coming from both guitarists generates the energy fans and listeners want to hear. Overall, Zero is a great album because Misery Love Co. provides the signature style of music fans and listeners have been waiting for.
On Zero there is a song titled “The Waiting Room” and this song is a great tune because of how well the musical programming and instruments blend in well with each other. Örnkloo provides the musical programming on the album and what is enjoyable is how he performs the programming music and helps sets the dark theme of the song while complimenting the sounds coming from the guitars. Hahne’s guitar skills are wonderful on this track because the structure of his guitar playing ranges from high to low notes and the sounds contribute to the high energy in the song. Also, the vocals on this track are fantastic because when listening, the vocals from Wiren and the rest of the band blend in well together, and the sound of the voices echoing in the background while Wiren continues to sing is brilliant and creative. Overall, “The Waiting Room” is an excellent song that will encourage fans and listeners to sing along with the band.
Also on the album, there is a song titled “Only Happy When it Rains” and what makes this song great is how strong the emotions from the verbal and non-verbal language is on the track. The original version of “Only Happy When it Rains” is performed by the band Garbage. When re-listening to the original version, the sound of the music is more upbeat compared to the version from Misery Loves Co. but the same dark emotions from the verbal and non-verbal language can still be felt. The main reason why Misery Loves Co.’s version is different from the original is that the theme is dark and in someways fans and listeners can feel more of the strong emotions when listening to the song. Misery Loves Co. did a fantastic job with the programmed music and instrumentation and they contribute to the strong emotions of the song. Wirén’s vocals are great on this track because when listening, his voice is filled with raw emotion. Overall, Misery Loves Co. did a fantastic job with this cover.
The song “Way Back Home” is a great track because the musical structure is more traditional rock than metal music. Everything on this track blends in well together and what seems to stand out in the song is how smooth Wirén’s vocals sound on the track. His vocals are raw mixed with a smooth tune of harmony and the way Wire harmonizes is beautiful because it contributes to the lightly bluesy theme. Also, the instrumentation is rather unique because the musical beats and tempos are a bit higher and the musical rhythm is great because it contributes to the rock vibe in the song. The musical programming by Örnkloo does a great job adding depth on this track because in someways the programmed music helps sets the pace by performing a higher and melodic note which contributes to the pure and raw energy on the track. Also, the guitar music is pure with the signature sound of rock music and when listening to the track, every single element in the song blends in so well. Misery Loves Co. did a fantastic job crafting a style of rock music on this track.
Overall, Zero is a brilliant album by Misery Loves Co. and the band did a fantastic job when creating this record, and will meet the expectations of fans and metal music lovers alike.
