Torres Releases Haunting New Song “Gracious Day” and Announces Spring 2020 Tour Dates

Torres, the musical project of Mackenzie Scott, has released another single entitled “Gracious Day,” which will be featured on her upcoming album Silver Tongue, which is set to be released next month. The performer has also announced a set of spring 2020 tour dates, which will begin on March 3 in Bristol, UK and finish up on May 23 in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Gracious Day,” contains sparse instrumentation, featuring only a simple acoustic guitar for most of the track, which is soon joined by a slight brass section and some vocal overlays. Scott’s voice carries the track, with her emotionally charged delivery as she sings about the fear of heartbreak.

“My girlfriend was trying to leave me. I basically wrote this song for her from the valley of the shadow of death, desperate that she might give me another chance – it worked,” Scott explained in a recent press release. “I felt like Ebenezer Scrooge after he wakes up on Christmas morning.”

Scott signed to Merge Records earlier this year, which accompanied an announcement regarding a 2020 album release. She released a single entitled “Good Scare,” which accompanied her announcement for Silver Tongue.

“Regarding ‘Good Scare,’ I guess I could say that falling in love is a lot like the Superman crawl,” Scott explained in a press release. “If you’re not familiar with Superman’s crawl, it’s a terrifying maneuver used in spelunking that’s only performed when certain passages are too narrow, so a person has to hold one arm against the body and the other above the head, all while trying to crawl forward. When you fall in love with someone, it’s scary like the Superman’s crawl, but you have no choice but to keep moving forward even though you have no idea what’s ahead of you.”
