Stage Barrier at Knotfest Mexico Leads to Mini-Riot, Evanescence and Slipknot Cancel Sets

Due to safety concerns, both Slipknot and Evanescence had to cancel their scheduled performances at the first Knotfest Meets Forcefest Festival this past Saturday in Mexico City. According to the PRP, the reason for the canceled performances was due to a mini-riot as angry fans later rushed the stage destroying the band’s equipment, including burning a drumkit believed to belong to Evanescence. The issue started out with a broken barricade that security was unable to fix, with Slipknot then expressing the safety of both bands and fans was “priority number one” as they were unable to take the stage as scheduled.

Slipknot issued a statement about the canceled shows.“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Slipknotwere not able to perform at last night’s Knotfest. Security barricades became an issue, and it was decided that for the safety of the fans, neither Slipknotor special guests Evanescence could take the stage.”

They continued to say “We had hoped to be able to perform today, but regrettably, a situation arose onstage after the cancellation that damaged or destroyed gear that would have been necessary to play. “We are extremely disappointed that we did not get the chance to perform, but the safety of our fans and our community is our biggest priority. We will look to get back to Mexico sometime in the future.”

Evanescence issued a video statement on their Instagram with a caption saying “We are heartbroken we didn’t get to play for you tonight, México City. Your safety, your life is more important than any show! We love you and we will be back soon, that’s a promise.”
