mxdwn PREMIERE: Zaragoza Steps Away From the Commercialism of the Holidays with New Video for “Gyspy Christmas”

Thanksgiving’s over and if you’ve turned on your car radio, entered a department store, or watched a minute of network television, you’ll know it’s officially Christmastime. If you already need a break from the cliche overload of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “Last Christmas,” we have the perfect song for your holiday playlist. Today, we’re excited to premiere the new single from Zaragoza called “Gypsy Christmas.”

The song is accompanied by a very simple music video featuring Zaragoza singing the song in front of a festive lighting arrangement. Musically, the song is just as simply arranged, featuring just an acoustic guitar and Zaragoza singing in a hushed tone. In the background, guitar leads add a bit of an exotic flair to the simple Christmas song.

“Christmas has always been my favorite holiday and the modern commercialism of it can make it stressful which is the opposite of what its about,” said Zaragoza. “This song is about getting away from that modern commercialism.”

Zaragoza, the name by which Drew Zaragoza goes by as a performer, is the acoustic project of the metal singer and guitarist. He also performs in the alt-metal band Sinicle, and Zaragoza is a significant step in a different direction for the musician. “Instead of screaming about what’s wrong in the world, I’m singing about what’s right,” he said. His debut EP as Zaragoza is Child of the Sun, which he recorded with the help of producer Mikal Reid.
