American singer-songwriter, Duff McKagan, best known as bassist of hard rock band, Guns N’ Roses, released a music video “Cold Outside,” from his newly released solo album, Tenderness, on Dec. 2. This music video has been released to address the growing homelessness crisis in the U.S., and specifically released on ‘Giving Tuesday.’
The music video shows black and white footage and pictures of those suffering from homelessness. The pain and concern is distinct in McKagan’s voice; the pictures and words throughout the video are portrayed as the voice for those whom McKagan is speaking for.
“In my early days I was in similar situations,” McKagan said. “So, I know what it’s like to not have anyone to turn to and sometimes need a helping hand to get back on my feet.”
This song and its meaning are a part of the bigger platform, the Propeller campaign, in which all of the proceeds go to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. Fans are able to volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission, and buy a signed copy of the Tenderness Deluxe LP along with the touring shirts and wristbands that correspond with the album.
“I know many know others in need,” McKagan said. “I am hoping that if we come together, we can help make a real difference.”
Tenderness was debuted earlier this year in June, and marked the release of McKagan’s third solo album. The entire album was written to address social and political issues throughout the world, as the album focused on emotion, rather than hard rock.
All donations made to the Seattles Union Gospel Mission, on Tuesday, Dec 3, will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $60,000, by an anonymous donor.
