What a way to brazenly kick the doors in for the year 2020 than to have the boldly fierce iconic female New York-bred punk outfit, Lunachicks, announce their first live performance in over fifteen years. The celebrated band which formed in the late ’80s and remained relatively active for the greater part of the ’90s would slow down considerably around 2000. According to Brooklyn Vegan Lunachicks entered into an “…extended hiatus in 2001 and have only played a couple reunion shows since, the last being the 2004 March for Women’s Lives Benefit in Washington, D.C. The band are now officially back, though, and have announced their first show since then — Webster Hall on April 11.”
At the helm of the group is the ever so colorfully eccentric fearsome leader, Theo Kogan, who during and after the success of Lunachicks has had a career in fashion. Kogan also made brief appearances in films most notably 1999’s Bringing Out The Dead and 2001 releases Zoolander and Rock Star . The band has released a total of six studio albums marking their debut album Babysitters on Acid in 1990 to their last musical offering 1999’s Luxury Problem via Go-Kart Records which was the label that shared the bulk of their success at the height of their career. As previously reported on Pitchfork, Lunachicks announced recently on “…(November 18) with an Instagram post announcing an April 11 show at NYC’s Webster Hall. ‘Cue the trumpet!
