Kanye West, perhaps music’s most controversial and polarizing figure, has released the music video for “Closed on Sunday”, according to a press release. Following the release of the video of “Follow God” that dropped three weeks ago, this is West’s second visual accompaniment for songs off of his newest album, Jesus is King.
The video begins featuring West along with Kim Kardashian and their children, as they roam West’s massive estate in Wyoming. Armored vehicles eventually arrive with a slew of West’s choir members, as well as Kris Jenner. After an epic shot of Kanye looking into the distance before kneeling before the Lord against a beautiful landscape, West’s choir surrounds him as they finish the song. West, in the middle of his choir, stands eerily still, while his choir energetically chants the chorus all around him. His stoic demeanor in the middle of the rapidly moving crowd seems to reflect the inner peace West has managed to achieve, despite the constant slew of criticism and attention that seems to always surround him.
While some “I-miss-the-old-Kanye” die-hards may not appreciate the new religious direction West has taken, there is no denying West’s ability to compose music and provide listeners with new experiences and thoughts with each new piece of work.
