Nicolas Godin of the French musical duo Air has announced a new album entitled Concrete and Glass, which is set to be released via Because Music on January 24th. This new album announcement is accompanied by a music video release for “The Foundation” which features guest vocals from multi-instrumentalist Cola Boyy.
“The Foundation,” is an upbeat indie pop track, with light krys and synths, a funky basslines, along with a spacey instrumental complimented by Godin’s vocal delivery. The music video was shot on 16mm film by director Greg Barnes, and features vintage like visual landscapes, that explore the themes of space and space exploration,
“Pierre Koenig’s Case Study House #21 was the starting point for this song. Well, at least that’s how I presented the music to its future singer, Cola Boyy. I told him about the project’s architectural origins, explaining that he must let his own personal inspiration run free for the lyrics,” Godin explained in a press release.”I always thought that a concept was always the perfect way to start a record, but then you should soon let the music take over. A good record is one in which the music seizes control pretty fast. I’ve applied this rule to each album I’ve been lucky enough to record, with only one mantra: ‘It’s the music that decides’. This song is the perfect example of this.”
This latest single released follows up from “The Border,” which debuted earlier this year. The music video for that track took inspiration from Godin’s experience in architecture school. Other artists who will be featured on this upcoming album include Kate NV, Kadjha Bonet, Kirin J Callinan and Alexis Taylor.
Air is best known for their unique blend of electronica and indie rock, and have become prominent for their extensive work in movie soundtracks. They have composed sountracks for the films The Virgin Suicides and Music for Museums.
