Melvins @ Pappy & Harriet’s 2/6

Relevancy is a difficult thing to maintain. Most bands never even get famous or influential, and even many of the bands that are lucky enough to get noticed fizzle out within a decade or so. But that never felt like an option for Melvins who were so skilled that in their time they’ve been instrumental in pioneering numerous genres.

You see, most bands pick a lane and stay in it, or at least stay somewhere on the same highway, and while Melvins has stuck to the same set of instruments (mostly) they’ve never been fully boxed in. They played an instrumental role in creating sounds that would eventually turn into genres like grunge, sludge metal, and noise rock. Not only did they have a hand in physically making the sounds that would go on to inspire numerous grunge bands, they were actively involved in making the careers of groups like Nirvana and Mudhoney.

In the time since they’ve shown a knack for tooling around in different sounds and styles, everything from their original grunge, sludge, noise setup as well as numerous albums working closer to hardcore punk, and even experimental rock. With a Melvins show, there is so much available material that you never know what you’re going to get, and with a venue as great as Pappy & Harriet’s, all we can guarantee is that it’ll be a damn good time.
