72-year-old American singer and songwriter, James Newell Osterberg Jr, widely known as Iggy Pop, dropped a surprising new music video based on his song, “Sonali”, on Nov. 25. The song is from his recent album Free, which was released earlier this year on Sept. 6, 2019.
The video starts with a lizard man stepping out of his bright, fuzzy, pink Mercedes Benz. The dread on his scaly face is evident when he is stuck in traffic, as he is traveling to meet his love, a lizard woman named, Sonali.
The song is filled with fast beats and wholesome synths. Iggy Pop sings in a talking-like voice as continuously sings for the lizard man to stay in his lane.
He parks his car on the side of the freeway to call Sonali to express his love for her, and his love is reciprocated back. When he starts driving to Sonali again, he is struck with the curse of traffic, once again.
“To park the car, we must find parking,” Iggy Pop sings. “Or spend the day on the freeway.”
The lizard man pulls his car out of traffic once again to stand on his car seats to play his shiny gold saxophone, as Iggy Pop hypnotically sings, “Sonali, Sonali”. By the end of the song, the blend of his voice, the saxophone solo and the fast-paced drum beats changed the tone of the song to a more dramatic vibe as the lizard man dramatically gazed into the distance.
Iggy Pop is set to play a concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York, New York on Friday, Mar. 6, 2020.
