Hard rock band Daughters released a music video for “Guest House,” a single from their 2018’s album You Won’t Get What You Want. The record was a more-sophisticated composition after their eight-year hiatus, which the band cited film and minimalism as its inspiration. The album standout “Guest House” dropped an A.F.Cortés-directed music video today.
Ravenously interested in black and white photography and film, both Daughters and Cortés have their special talents to express themselves in a color-free palette. In the music clip, darkness and lights, shades of black, white and grey, as well as the heavy contrast effects guide the audience through a story. Meanwhile, singer Alexis Marshall’s baritone snarl, the extreme grindcore noise and the abrasive sounds musically blend all together to amplify an unsettling manic edge. In a world without colors, psychological tension and a variety of emotions are tingly perceived by viewers through the monochrome lens. Enjoy the music video for “Guest House” below.
Marshall spoke on the collaboration with Cortés. “It is always exciting to see our work interpreted by talented artists,” he shared. “We first became familiar with Andres through his wonderful photographic work. His ability to capture unique moments, often missed by other photographers, is uncanny and we trusted him to be able to bring the same abilities as a director.”
Unlike their innocuous band name, Daughters’ current line-up is filled by an all-male quintet, including vocalist Alexis S.F. Marshall, guitarist Nicholas Andrew Sadler, drummer Jon Syverson and bassist Samuel Moorehouse Walker. The band is known for creating a cathartic experience in their noise-filled music.
Daughters and grindcore rock band HEALTH announced their co-headlining North American tour in the winter. Special guest Show Me The Body will join the crew as a support leg. Check out their tour dates and venues below.
