Swans have announced their first shows since 2017, with scheduled appearances set to take place across the United States next June. These shows will begin in Dallas, Texas on June 5th, and will finish up with two dates at the Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York City.
This latest touring lineup will feature the band’s leader Michael Gira on acoustic and electric guitars and vocals, Kristof Hahn on lap steel guitar, electric guitar, and loops, Phil Puleo on drums, percussion and gizmos, Dana Schechter on bass guitar, lap steel guitar and keys, Christopher Pravdica on bass guitar, loops and keys and Ben Frost on synthesizer, mellotron and electric guitar.
This lineup diverges a bit from the lineup which recorded the last album, with Larry Mullins, Yoyo Röhm, Jeremy Barnes, Heather Trost, Anna and Maria von Hausswolff , Baby Dee, and The Necks band members: Chris Abrahams Tony Buck and Lloyd Swanton absent from this lineup. Gira dissolved the band’s former lineup with this latest album cycle.
One of these scheduled shows includes the recently announced Oblivion Access Festival, in Austin, Texas, which will take place from June 5th to June 7th. This festival is a rebranding of the former Austin Terror Fest, and will feature acts such as Anna Von Hausswolff, Converge, Despise You and Lil Ugly Mane.
Swans released Leaving Meaning earlier this year. “Their fourth album, Leaving Meaning, pushes them further along their own direction, while not greatly expanding on the ideas before. Instead, it rolls the emotions of those massive projects that preceded it into a closer, more intimate experiment,” mxdwn reviewer Drew Pitt explained.
