It’s been a little over a year since Soccer Mommy released her impressive album Clean and in the time since, Sophie Allison has been releasing stand-alone singles to satiate her fans. On the heals of her most recent release “lucy,” Soccer Mommy is back again with a 7-minute long song called “yellow is the color of her eyes.”
“The song was inspired by a time when I was on the road constantly and I felt like I was losing time – specifically with my mother,” Allison said. The video itself has a bit of a jaundiced coloring, opening with Allison facing the camera, singing the lyrics to the song as she continues on her journey. The song is richly arranged, with the instrumentation swelling to fill the void in between each of her earnestly-delivered lyrical lines. Mary Lattimore provides harp playing on the track, which Allison added is “a song that I feel really showcases my writing when it comes to instrumentation, so it’s one that makes me really proud.”
The chorus shimmers and shines, with sparkling guitar effects that give it a nostalgic quality. It’s an extremely candid and open piece of music from Soccer Mommy and the video is a perfect accompaniment.
In addition to the new video, Soccer Mommy has announced some new tour dates that run through the summer, performing with Jesus Lizard, Tomberlin and Emily Reo.
