Comedian Hannibal Buress surprised fans this past weekend by impersonating MF Doom. The surprise took place at the annual Adult Swim Music Festival this past weekend in Los Angeles, CA. During Captain Murphy’s set, aka Flying Lotus, he surprised the crowd with the hip-hop legend that is MF Doom, only to find out that it was Hannibal Buress. According to Consequence of Sound, Flying Lotus hyped up the crowd to welcome Doom to the stage. Buress then walked onstage in an MF Doom mask and an oversized coat. He made rapping motions while the classic “Accordian” played and essentially lip-syncing to MF Doom’s verses.
Lotus then paused his set and walked up to Buress, ripping the mask off his face. “Get the fuck outta here,” he said while laughing. “Hannibal, what are you doing here?” Buress then said “I didn’t know that song really,” he joked, “so I couldn’t even do rap hands that good.” MF Doom is known for others to take his place at multiple shows, calling it a “villain style.”
Murphy played the first day of the festival, alongside the much-anticiapted return of Dethklok and HEALTH. Thundercat also joined Murphy’s set, providing live instrumentation through the 3D visual set.
