Haim Debuts Music Video for Graceful New Track “Hallelujah”

American sister act Haim shared a new song “Hallelujah” and its accompanying music video on Monday. The music video was directed by Oscar-winning director Paul Thomas Anderson, who also directed short films for Haim in 2017’s “Valentine” and “Little Of Your Love.”

A solo guitar performance in a dark theater unveils the whole video. Using a constantly moving shot, the video focuses on a clean setting that avoids reproducing extra details but only creates a starkly simplified image of Danielle Haim on the stage. Este Haim is collected to the stage by Danielle while singing her verse on the pop-rock track. Alana Haim completes the thematic performance as if almost tying the final knot of the trio’s act. With Anderson’s stylistic trademark of bold visual style and Haim’s R&B influenced soft rock music, the video explores a theme of a bonded relationship. Check out the music video below.

The song is about the love of family, friends and relationship, remarking for the trio’s gratefulness in their life. Este and Alana shared their personal stories about the song. Alana expressed that it’s her way to pay a tribute to a close friend called Sammi Kane Kraft, who died in a car accident at age 20. “I had always wanted to pay tribute to her in some way and i could never put how important she was into words,” she said.

“Hallelujah” to Este, is “a song about relying on the people around you and reflecting on how different life could be if those people weren’t around,” shedding her forever appreciation for her sisters’ comfort and support when she was battling with diabetes. “This song is for anyone struggling with chronic illness and the people around us who we truly rely on for help and guidance,” she added.

Following “Summer Girl” and “Now I’m In It,” “Hallelujah” is new release from the three-piece group. Haim also joined in a 12-track new Hanukkah compilation album produced by Hollywood composer Randall Poster. The new Hanukkah-themed album, featuring Yo La Tengo, the Flaming Lips, Jack Black and more, is slated to release on November 22.
