The New Jersey-based post-harcore/emo band Thursday have recently announced some tour dates that coincide opening for the newly reunited famed emo group, My Chemical Romance. According to The Prp, one of the key bands that popularized the more darker sounding emo music, Thursday have “…announced some shows around their upcoming show opening for My Chemical Romance. That mini-tour will kickoff on December 18th and finish on December 21st, finishing with a West Coast version of their annual holiday show.”
Formed in 1997 and active from 1999 right up until 2011, where it was thought to be at the time an indefinite hiatus for the group, Thursday reunited in 2016. Thursday has recorded and released six studio albums: 1999’s debut album Waiting, their breakout sophomore album 2001’s Full Collapse, the third studio album and major label Island Records debut 2003’s War All the Time, 2006’s A City by the Light Divided, 2009’s Common Existence and 2011’s No Devolución. Thursday’s current touring roster includes Geoff Rickly (lead vocals), guitarists Tom Keeley and Steve Pedulla, Tim Payne (bass), Andrew Everding (keyboards/backing vocals) and Tucker Rule (drums).
The Prp article concludes with Rickly speaking on the group’s forthcoming shows, via social media, saying:
“Many of you know that we are opening for our dear friends, My Chemical Romance, for their return at the Shrine on December 20th. As that show has been sold out since it went on sale, we thought it only right to add a couple of shows for all who won’t be able to attend.
We are playing two special/secret warmup shows, on the 18th in San Diego and on the 19th at the legendary Roxy. On Saturday the 21st we’ll be ending the year with a special West Coast version of our Holiday Show at one of our oldest stomping grounds: the Glasshouse in Pomona.
In keeping with this celebration of friendship and legacy, @ChrisLaneConley of Saves the Day will be joining us, to play a selection of classic songs.
We can’t wait to see you there!!!”
